Barry University, Graduate School of Medical Sciences, Miami Shores, Florida

The HADP goal for the project was to enable the establishment of a medical program for Barry University and elevate the perception of professional programs at Barry.

The project is the first phase of a three-phase development spanning the next five years that will prove for the establishment of a medical education center within the Barry University campus in the Village of Miami Shores.

Focusing on intimate activity courtyards similar to those located on the original Barry University Campus, this two-story development will contain approximately 27,000 s.f. of new construction and 5000 s.f. of remodeling.

The program for the Phase 1 facility includes a multi-use Physical Diagnostic Lab, two 80-seat classrooms, offices, conference room, copy/mail room and support spaces for the administrative core of the School. This phase also includes the remodeling of an existing two-story building that once served as the administrative offices for the Biscayne Kennel Club. The remodeled space will be used for additional faculty offices, student study hall/lounge and student support elements of the program. Phase 1 will also require design, through Schematic Design, of the future facility to be used for the Basic Sciences and built as Phase 3 of the GSMS. This portion of the Graduate School of Medical Sciences provides 5600 s.f. on 2 floors. The remaining portion of Phase 1 is a 250-seat lecture hall, accessed at the second level, and stepping down to grade where the presentation platform is located. This facility is to be divisible to accommodate classes up to 125 students each. Usable area beneath the second floor portion of the lecture hall will provide for an orthotics laboratory, seminar rooms and support facilities. A near mirror image of this Lecture Hall is proposed to be Phase 2 of the GSMS.
