Florida Atlantic University, Student Apartment Community, Boca Raton, FloridaThe HADP goal for the project was to design the first apartment style housing on the FAU campus and to organize the pedestrian circulation paths such that all units are accessed from a second level elevated pedestrian spine which enables entry into the “Living Rooms” that are on the second floor of all units. The project provided for a Master Plan for a total development of 1,200 student dormitory apartment complex. The Phase I development consisted of 182 studio units (91 apartments) and 328 four-bedroom units (82 apartments) designed in four clusters forming a linear village concept for 510 students. The entrances to all units are located on the second floor. Student Service and Administration Facilities are included in an 8,000 s.f. Student Services Building and a separate 8,500 s.f. building is provided for housing of campus visitors and resident advisors. Site improvements included parking, campus roadways, a new entrance at Glades Road and Pedestrian overpass at Florida Atlantic Boulevard. This project was under the direction of David Harper through the design and construction document phase. Harper Aiken Partners, Inc. also served as a consultant through the bidding phase. |
