Florida International University, Lakeview Residence Hall, Miami, Florida

The HADP goal for the project was to continue the award winning success of three previous residence halls the firm designed on the campus and to invoke a fresh perspective in an architectural solution that both matched and departed from the firm’s previous building nearby.

HADP Architecture provided architectural services for a new 250,000 s.f. housing project located in the Florida International University Park Campus. This project consists of two, six-story student housing facilities that are the fourth residence hall building HADP has completed on campus. The Lakeview Residence hall successfully concludes the residential quad on the south side on campus. With the completion of this project, FIU was able to accommodate 827 additional freshman students on this 5.2 acre site. A unique design element that HADP pioneered on this project is the use of forced-perspective hallways. Our design heightens the RA’s perspective by decreasing the hallway width as it terminates at the end of each floor. By doing this, the RA has a better site-line to each student’s room.  We felt the different angle and recesses in the corridors helped to create a space that was more appealing and inviting for the students.
