Florida International University, Everglades Hall, Miami, FloridaThe HADP goal for the project was to provide for a design response to accommodate mostly sophomores in a design configuration that offers a transition between a freshmen dormitory experience and on campus apartment style living. Everglades Hall provides housing for 388 students, which surrounds a formal courtyard completing the diagonal path from the academic campus, and defines informal areas as buffers from the academic zones. The building has a total area of 154,000 s.f. The first floor contains lounges, classrooms, computer labs, a 24-hour front desk, and one wing specifically for residents. Students will reside on floors two through six. Each wing has a Resident Assistant. The typical student room accommodation will be a private room within a three bedroom apartment suite. The three bedroom apartment suites have one private bathroom. All are suite style with fully equipped kitchens, and furnished bedrooms. Each bedroom has unlimited access via an Ethernet connection, local telephone service, and cable TV service. The building contains several common areas/study lounges, laundry facilities, and a computer lab. |
