Kennesaw State University, University Village Suites, Kennesaw, GeorgiaThe HADP goal for the project was to successfully integrate a very large scale student housing project alongside existing housing and to plan for additional housing expansion and support facilities, which come together to create a vibrant “Town Center” village concept that is both home to students and an exciting place on campus. HADP Architecture was awarded the latest phase of new student housing on the KSU campus to provide for over 900 beds in a quarter million s.f. facility. The existing housing lacks a defined “Point of Arrival.” The HADP design provides a single, common entry; a two-story connector between these two 4-story buildings centering on the front door. This central entry building not only provides essential resident support areas but also for supervised entry from the north, south and east. This layout can efficiently provide for a single point of access and security for more than 900 students. This “Point of Arrival” is surrounded by activities, indoor and out, that will draw students from both buildings to this central core. Sustainable design features include motion-sensor lighting, carpet made from recycled materials, high-efficiency toilets, and irrigation using only collected rainwater. Every corridor and student meeting area benefit from natural lighting through large energy-efficient windows. The entire project build out will include 3,000 new beds, a town center, a dining facility and support areas. |
