University of Georgia, New Residence Hall at East Campus, Athens, GeorgiaThe HADP goal for the project was to provide a state-of-the art and modern residence accommodations in renovation structure or new construction blending with the historic architectural style of the campus. HADP Architecture was awarded the new on-campus student housing project at UGA which includes three parts. The scope of work includes: 1.) the renovation of the existing Rutherford Hall and a new addition to Rutherford Hall which brings online a total of 230 beds; 2.) the renovation of Mary Lyndon Hall bringing just over 100 beds online; and 3.) a new residence hall on the Reed Quad. Design standards were set by the University to accommodate each user groups’ academic and social needs. Through the use of a living cluster approach, the design team met the needs of the users while still preserving the historical significance of the buildings. Rutherford Hall and Mary Lyndon Hall are both historic buildings located on the “Myers Quad” in the heart of the UGA campus. The new five-story building will rise between one of the existing East Campus Village residence halls and the Rhodes Animal Science Center. Most residents of the new building will be second-year students. Students will share rooms in the new building, with one bathroom for every four students. LEED principles will be incorporated into the building design in order to receive certification. |
