University of South Florida, Cypress Hall Apartment Complex, Tampa, Florida

The HADP goal for the project was to design the best on campus student housing available at USF for both suite-style and apartment-style living accommodations.

HADP Architecture was selected through a design competition to provide the architectural services for Cypress Apartment Complex at the University of South Florida in Tampa. The 602-bed facility features three and four-story buildings with apartment-style units and suite-style units organized around a centrally-focused community lounge. Two buildings were designed with the traditional double occupancy suites grouping style with 30 students and a resident advisor for 300 beds at approximately 110,716 g.s.f. The complex shares a community building and Life and Learning Center of 6,509 g.s.f.

To establish a contemporary and competitive on campus housing alternative, the firm analyzed the ultimate use of square footage in providing living spaces that are functionally complete, convenient to the lifestyles of today’s student, and comfortable to the resident. A student focus group provided input for the design regarding fundamental student life issues.
