American Airlines, World Gateway Terminal - Interior Finish Out, Miami, FloridaThe HADP goal for the project was to design and manage a successful interface between the Concourse D Extension project designed by the firm and this project that provided the detailed interior finishes. HADP, in joint venture with a local minority firm along with American Airlines, the Miami Dade Aviation Department, and Miami-Dade County government officials celebrated the early completion and opening. This portion of the North Terminal Program, American Airline’s ‘World Gateway’, consists of the design of the interior finishes for the state-of-the-art terminal building that houses twelve international gates connected by international and domestic concourses on the second and third levels, providing shopping and upscale eateries, as well as the fifth level train station and guide way for the Automated People Mover at the top of the Terminal, totaling approximately 450,000 s.f. Extensive use of terrazzo, granite, stainless steel and back painted glass throughout the concourses, as well as coordination with the County’s Art in Public Places program, has set the standard for the balance of the construction at MIA. This included the implementation of numerous client requests and various requirements imposed by the Transportation Safety Act such as the deletion of the group rooms, addition of passenger processing rooms at each gate, revision to hold rooms at each gate as well as secure and sterile corridors. Due to revised construction phasing initiated and implemented by the design team this portion of the North Terminal, with the twelve international gates designed are the first to be fully operational and generating revenue for both American Airlines and the Miami Dade Aviation Department. |
