Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, North & South Terminal Renovations, Atlanta, Georgia

The HADP goal for the project was to improve the passenger environment inside and throughout the main passenger terminals of the world’s busiest airport without disruption to daily operations. HADP Architecture, in conjunction with Harper Partners, was selected by the Atlanta Airlines Terminal Corporation to provide complete A/E services for the multi-phased ceiling replacement at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The first phase involved the analysis of existing multi-planed ceilings totaling 307,000 s.f. of floor area, analysis of existing lighting levels, analysis of existing HVAC system, and analysis of existing electrical capacities. The second phase includes documentation of existing conditions, installation techniques, framing details, problem areas and lighting location.

Based on the analysis of the existing conditions, the firm provided design and construction documents for complete ceiling replacement, improvement scenarios for the terminal lighting, correction of moisture problems in the ceiling cavity, enhanced lighting in the terminals, and new ceiling materials to improve acoustics.

This project won a Build America award from the Associated General Contractors of America for its challenges in staging, phasing and security concerns. The work was performed at night, between 10:00pm and 5:00am, in a well phased and choreographed construction project.
