Beijing Oriental Hotel, Interior Architecture, Beijing, China

The HADP goal for the project was to produce a quality innovative design and to produce a level of technical documentation that would dovetail into the work of other members of the design team. Halfway around the world in Beijing, China, as the massive hotel and condominium towers rise above the city, a global team of architects and interior designers worked on an uninterrupted schedule. This fast-track project, where East met West in a collaborative effort, required Western technology and production capabilities. HADP completed the interior architectural construction documents for public and common areas of this five-star mega hotel which consisted of a total of over ½ million square meters.

The commission includes the grand lobby with a water/glass/steel grand feature and two lounges, a bar/cigar emporium, restaurant featuring French, Italian, American and Chinese specialties; a European style café, and an informal Chinese restaurant. Eight meeting rooms, a 480 seated guest ballroom, two boardrooms, and all the required function areas are included in the conference center for a total of 180,000 s.f. Documents include dimension plans, finish floor plans, furniture plans, location plan for electrical outlets, reflected ceiling plans, all related interior elevations along with the required sections and details. All work is in metric with English notes. Chinese translations were done by other consultants in Beijing. This project has over 1,000 rooms for the hotel and 300 apartments for a total construction cost of $500 million.
