Florida Gulf Coast University, South Village Phases I & II, Fort Myers, FloridaThe HADP goal for the project was to design freshman housing on the FGCU campus to keep up with growing enrollment and demand for housing while encouraging social interaction and options for further development. HADP Architecture master planned on-campus student housing for Florida Gulf Coast University to include 3,500 beds. The resulting North Lake Village included 1,980 beds and was a dramatic success. Everglades Hall is the first of South Village. The five-story, 124,075 s.f. complex is situated between a freshwater lake and a nature preserve. The freshman residence hall features multiple study spaces, lounges, computer lab, game room, laundry facility, exercise area, 24-hour security and an attached dining hall. From the exterior, the red brick sidewalks of Everglades Hall lead into a beige building with burnt orange trim and forest green awnings. Inside, the tiled lobby features a lounge and reception area. Biscayne Hall, a sister building identical in design was completed in August 2009 and received LEED Silver Certification. SoVi Dining, South Village Dining, is a new dining experience on campus. Starting with the design of the building, it incorporates green components. All appliances are Energy Star compliant and all food selections are freshly prepared in front of the customer. The restaurant promotes trayless dining encouraging smarter food consumption and less water usage. |
