Nova Southeastern University, Multi Function Building, North Miami Beach, FloridaThe HADP goal was to provide a building to establish the university’s Osteopathic Medical Program on an existing campus which had acquired the existing building from a hospital. This project was an opportunity to design the first new building on the urban campus location and to establish the Osteopathic Medical program as a forward thinking and progressive institution. The Multi Function Building consists of a four-story high structural steel frame with a precast and glass curtain wall. Program design response includes a 500-person tiered lecture auditorium divisible into separate parts, cafeteria, student lounge, gym, indoor racquetball, classroom and library with capacity up to 40,000 medical volumes. Maintenance and support facilities were also incorporated into the building. Other work included conversion of the existing library into laboratories. The project included programming and long range campus master planning for campus housing facilities, academic buildings and parking, master planning to accommodate long range expansion of the University including acquisition of residential properties, and conversion of 150,000 s.f. of hospital into university use. |
