History and Legacy

An architectural firm with a long history in the design of large-scale institutional, commercial, military and multi-family projects, HADP Architecture Inc. is the inheritor of a rich tradition. The firm's history began in the early years of the 1950s, when Atlanta architect Hobert Aiken served as principal of Wise, Sampson & Aiken. By the 1960s, his local colleague Francis Sheetz of Atlanta-based Tomberlin & Sheetz had begun the work that would lead to the development of affordable housing on a mass scale.

Careers On The Rise

In the 1970s, Aiken's sons Richard and Stewart joined Frank Sheetz to found the practice that later came to be named Aiken, Aiken & Sheetz Architects. Also during that decade, David Harper was just beginning his architectural career, which included working in New York under the tutelage of design guru Peter Eisenman. Thanks to mentoring and guidance by his father Cleve and legendary Florida architect Ed Grafton, Harper went on to found the Florida-based Harper Partners, which became one of the state's most accomplished architectural firms in the 1980s and 1990s.

The Firm Expands, Adding New Talent

In the late 1990s, key acquisitions became an important part of the firm's growth. Two Florida-based firms and an additional architect, Bob Tippett (formerly of Atlanta-based Tippett/Clepper & Associates) joined the firm, providing a deeper base of skills and experience as well as a broader base of project specialization. Those acquisitions and the merger in 2003 of the Harper and Aiken Firms led to our name change in 2006, becoming HADP Architecture Inc.

A Rich Legacy

Today, HADP Architecture Inc. has completed projects in more than 20 states and a number of countries around the world. Our firm is among the nation's most respected architectural firms, and we intend to continue to be worthy of that respect by continuing to innovate in our practices, methods, and through such advances as the use of cutting-edge concrete design technology.

With decades of continuous practice, our original principals remain involved and engaged as leaders in the firm, serving clients every day. Though we have pioneered many design approaches in use today, we continue to perfect those practices through rigorous time-tested methods. We are thankful for the rich history we have inherited, and will continue to build on that legacy for our clients in the future.
